| | | The Nervous System The central nervous system is made up of the
* spinal cord and * brain
All the organs and muscles inside your body rely upon these nerve impulses to function. Electrochemical impulses travel from the brain and spinal cord to the nerves located throughout the body. When the spine is misaligned, it will effect the nervous system and in turn our organs and the rest of our body.
Chiropractic emphasizes noninvasive therapies, such as manual treatments. The most common procedure is the spinal adjustment.
Neurological signals travel from the brain, down the spinal cord and out of openings in the vertebrae to control literally every cell in the body. Yet even as it protects the spinal cord, the neck gives us an incredible degree of neck movement. | |
| The spine In most adults, the spine is composed of 26 individual back bones (vertebrae). Just as the skull protects the brain, vertebrae protect the spinal cord. The vertebrae are separated by disks made of cartilage, which act as cushions, reducing the forces generated by movements such as walking and jumping. | |
| Neck pain Neck pain often isn't experienced as 'pain' by patients at all. It usually involves numbness or weakness in the arms or legs, difficulty walking, loss of pain or temperature sensation in the hands and arms, poor balance and stiffness in the neck. | |
| Blackberry neck? Squinting at a tiny screen, thumbs a blur as they type. It's a posture most often associated with a BlackBerry, that little status symbol for a certain type of white collar worker. But it's poor posture, and it can lead to a lot of neck pain.
